Residential Services — Post-Construction Cleaning
From construction site to move-in ready
The final clean after new construction or renovation, once every trade is finished and off site. Removes the fine construction dust and residue from every surface so the space is move-in ready.
Salt & Slate performs the final clean — the detailed pass that happens once every trade has finished, tools and materials are cleared, and the space is ready for its last transformation before move-in or handover. The drywall is taped, the paint is cured, the floors are laid, yet a fine layer of construction dust has settled into corners, ledges, window tracks, and surfaces you would never think to check. A broom sweep and a wipe-down will not touch it. Our team removes that residue so the finished product actually looks finished.
We use HEPA filtration to capture airborne particulate, specialized wipes to pull adhesive residue and grout haze from surfaces, and a sequenced cleaning process that starts at the ceiling and works down to prevent recontamination. Inside cabinets, drawers, and the refrigerator, oven, and microwave get detailed. Window tracks, ledges, and trim get cleared. The goal is to hand you a home where the construction is invisible.
Whether the project was a full custom build, a kitchen renovation, or an addition, we scale the crew and time to match the scope. We work directly with general contractors and project managers on scheduling so the cleaning slots between final trades and the punch list walkthrough or first showing.
Room by Room
Full Cleaning Checklist
Post-construction cleaning is our most labor-intensive service. Every surface is addressed — including inside all cabinets, drawers, HVAC vents, and window tracks, plus the refrigerator, oven, and microwave inside and out. Interior dishwasher cleaning is available as an add-on. Scheduling note: we clean after all trades are finished and off site. Fine construction dust keeps settling out of the air and ductwork for days afterward, so some resettling after the clean is normal.

Is This Right for You?
Who it’s for
Homeowners, general contractors, and project managers who need a home or renovation space brought from construction-complete to move-in condition. The fine particulate from drywall, paint, and adhesive requires specialized cleaning that standard residential services are not equipped to handle.
- → A remodel, addition, or new build just finished — every trade is off site and the space carries the fine dust and residue construction leaves behind, even after it's been swept
- → Your contractor did a broom sweep, but the fine dust is still in the HVAC vents, window tracks, and inside every cabinet
- → You're the project manager or GC and need the space handed off in move-in condition
- → The home is partially furnished and construction dust has settled on everything in the affected area
- → You're listing the completed project for sale and need it showing-ready, not just swept
Scope & Expectations
What to expect after construction
A note on settling dust
Post-construction dust behaves differently than everyday household dust. Fine particles from drywall, sanding, and finish work remain suspended in the air and inside your HVAC system, ductwork, and wall cavities for days or even weeks after construction ends — and they continue to settle on surfaces after any cleaning is completed, no matter how thorough. Additional dust is also reintroduced whenever trades, movers, or installers re-enter the home after our crew has finished.
Our post-construction cleaning removes the dust and residue present on accessible surfaces at the time of service. It cannot prevent airborne or duct-borne particles from resettling afterward, and resettled dust does not indicate incomplete work. Because this settling occurs after service and is outside our control, Salt and Slate Cleaning Company is not liable for dust that resettles after our crew completes the final walkthrough, or for dust introduced by other trades, movers, or installers entering the home after our service. For this reason, we recommend replacing HVAC filters after construction, running the fan with fresh filters before move-in, and scheduling your clean after all trades have fully completed their work. If dust reappears in the days following your service, a light maintenance clean — not a repeat post-construction clean — is the appropriate next step, and we are happy to quote one.
By booking, you acknowledge our service terms, including that we are not liable for dust resettling after service, or for dust and debris resulting from construction trades, installers, or movers entering the home during or after our clean.
The home needs to be complete
Schedule your clean after every trade has finished and cleared out. When painters, tile setters, flooring crews, or installers are still working, they generate new dust and debris over cleaned surfaces, and our crew works around tools, materials, and equipment it cannot move. If the home is not complete when we arrive, or active trades prevent access to the areas in scope, we clean what is accessible and re-quote the remaining work as a second visit.
Full terms of service, including post-construction scope, are in our terms and conditions.
The Process
How it works
01
Describe the project
Tell us the scope of construction, the square footage affected, and the date the last trade clears the site. We confirm the home is free of tools, materials, and workers before we schedule the crew size and time your final clean needs.
02
Schedule the final clean
We slot in once the last contractor finishes and before the punch list walkthrough or first showing. If your GC is coordinating, loop us in directly.
03
Systematic cleaning
Our team works ceiling to floor, room by room, pulling construction dust and residue from every surface. HEPA filtration captures airborne particulate as we go.
04
Walkthrough and handoff
Your team lead walks the space before we leave to confirm every surface meets the standard. The home is ready for furniture, fixtures, or its first showing.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How is post-construction cleaning different from a move-in cleaning?
The type of debris is fundamentally different. Construction cleaning targets fine construction particulate from drywall cutting, paint overspray, adhesive residue, grout haze, and the kind of dust that settles inside HVAC vents and inside cabinet boxes — not just on shelves. A standard move-in cleaning isn't equipped for it. Post-construction cleaning uses HEPA filtration, specialized surface wipes for residue, and a sequenced process that pulls the fine particulate out rather than redistributing it.
Does the home need to be empty for a post-construction clean?
No. We clean both vacant and partially furnished homes. In furnished spaces, we focus on surfaces affected by the construction zone, protect furniture where needed, and work systematically through the affected areas. Either way, inside all cabinets and drawers, the refrigerator, oven, and microwave, HVAC vents, and window tracks are covered.
When should I schedule the final clean?
Once every trade has finished and the site is cleared — no painters, tile setters, flooring crews, or installers still working, and tools, materials, and packaging removed. That is when the final clean does the most: nothing is generating new dust, and nothing gets undone. Salt & Slate is built for exactly this stage — the transformation from construction-complete to move-in ready, after your contractor's rough cleanup is done. Coordinate the date with your GC or project manager and we slot the crew in ahead of your walkthrough or first showing. If we arrive and construction is still underway or the areas in scope are obstructed, we clean what is accessible and re-quote the rest as a second visit.
What does it cost vs. a standard deep clean?
Post-construction cleaning is priced above a deep clean because it's significantly more labor-intensive and requires specialized equipment. The exact quote depends on square footage, the scope of construction, and whether the home is furnished or vacant. We assess that when you describe the project — the size of the renovation matters as much as the size of the home.
Why does dust reappear after a post-construction clean?
Fine particles from drywall, sanding, and finish work stay suspended in the air and inside the HVAC system, ductwork, and wall cavities for days or even weeks after construction ends, and they keep settling on surfaces after any cleaning is finished, no matter how thorough. Dust is also reintroduced whenever trades, movers, or installers re-enter the home after our crew leaves. Our clean removes the dust and residue on accessible surfaces at the time of service; it cannot stop airborne or duct-borne particles from resettling afterward, and resettled dust does not mean the work was incomplete. Replace the HVAC filters after construction, run the fan with fresh filters before move-in, and schedule the clean after every trade has finished. If dust reappears in the days after service, a light maintenance clean rather than a repeat post-construction clean is the right next step, and we are happy to quote one.
