Scope & Expectations

What to expect after construction

A note on settling dust

Post-construction dust behaves differently than everyday dust. Fine particles from drywall, sanding, and finish work remain suspended in the air and inside HVAC systems, ductwork, and wall cavities for days or even weeks after construction ends — and they continue to settle on surfaces after any cleaning is completed, no matter how thorough. Additional dust is also reintroduced whenever trades, movers, or installers re-enter the space after our crew has finished.

Our post-construction cleaning removes the dust and residue present on accessible surfaces at the time of service. It cannot prevent airborne or duct-borne particles from resettling afterward, and resettled dust does not indicate incomplete work. Because this settling occurs after service and is outside our control, Salt and Slate Cleaning Company is not liable for dust that resettles after our crew completes the final walkthrough, or for dust introduced by other trades, movers, or installers entering the space after our service. For this reason, we recommend replacing HVAC filters after construction and running the system with fresh filters before occupancy, and scheduling your clean after all trades have fully completed their work. If dust reappears in the days following your service, a light maintenance clean — not a repeat post-construction clean — is the appropriate next step, and we are happy to quote one.

By booking, you acknowledge our service terms, including that we are not liable for dust resettling after service, or for dust and debris resulting from construction trades, installers, or movers entering the space during or after our clean.

The site needs to be complete

Schedule the final clean after every trade has finished and cleared the site. When painters, tile setters, flooring crews, or installers are still working, they generate new dust and debris over cleaned surfaces, and our crew works around equipment and materials it cannot move. If the site is not complete when we arrive, or active trades prevent access to the areas in scope, we clean what is accessible and re-quote the remaining work as a second visit.

Full terms of service, including post-construction scope, are in our terms and conditions.

Common Questions

Commercial Construction Cleanup — FAQ

Does Salt & Slate handle commercial construction cleanup?

Yes. Salt & Slate provides the commercial post-construction final clean for tenant improvements, ground-up construction, renovation projects, and retail buildouts — sometimes called a builder's clean in GC contracts and specs. Cleaners are licensed, background-checked, and fully insured. We schedule once every trade has cleared the site.

What does commercial construction cleanup include?

Salt & Slate performs the final clean — the detailed, inspection-ready pass once every trade has cleared the site: construction dust removal, interior window cleaning, hard floor cleaning, fixture detail, and final surface work. We coordinate timing directly with your GC, project manager, or building owner so the final clean lands after the rough clean and ahead of occupancy or turnover.

What commitments come with the service?

Licensed and insured cleaners on every visit. 24-hour satisfaction guarantee — if anything is missed, we return. Month-to-month service with no long-term contracts. Certificate of insurance provided for general contractor prequalification on request.

Does the site need to be finished before the final clean?

Yes. The final clean is scheduled after all trades are complete and tools, materials, and construction debris have been removed. Cleaning performed alongside active trades is undone as those crews keep working, and our teams cannot safely work around live equipment. If we arrive and trades are still active or the areas in scope are obstructed, we clean what is accessible and re-quote the balance as a second visit. We coordinate the final-clean date against your construction schedule so it lands after the last trade clears.

Why does dust reappear after a post-construction clean?

Fine particles from drywall, sanding, and finish work stay suspended in the air and inside HVAC systems, ductwork, and wall cavities for days or even weeks after construction ends, and they keep settling on surfaces after any cleaning is finished. Dust is also reintroduced whenever trades, movers, or installers re-enter the space after our crew leaves. Our clean removes the dust and residue on accessible surfaces at the time of service; it cannot stop airborne or duct-borne particles from resettling afterward, and resettled dust does not mean the work was incomplete. We schedule the final clean after every trade has cleared the site, and we quote a light touch-up pass separately when one is needed before handover.
