Lost Property at a Las Vegas Rental: A Cleaner Handoff Plan
Create a clear process for belongings left behind after checkout without delaying the next rental turnover.
By Salt & Slate Cleaning Team
A phone charger behind a nightstand is easy to mistake for the property’s equipment. A shirt in a drawer raises a different question: is it a forgotten guest item or something the owner stores there?
Before the next Las Vegas Airbnb cleaning, give the team a simple lost-property process. It should explain who decides what to keep, where items go and how the host learns they were found.
Separate guest belongings from house supplies
Keep an inventory of the items supplied with the rental, especially chargers, remotes, spare blankets and small kitchen appliances. Mark owner storage clearly and state whether those spaces are outside the turnover scope.
Choose one secure place for found belongings. Avoid adding them to linen cupboards or leaving them in a drawer the next guest will use. A bag or container with the property and checkout date makes later identification easier.
Give the cleaner one point of contact
Ask for a brief description and, where appropriate, a photo of the item. The host can then handle the guest conversation and any shipping arrangements. Keep personal documents and sensitive information out of shared group messages.
Set instructions for time-sensitive situations, such as medication or perishable food. These decisions should come from the host’s established process rather than an on-the-spot guess by the cleaning team.
Keep turnover moving
Found property should have a defined handoff that allows cleaning to continue. Decide who collects stored items and how long the host will retain them.
Include the process in the property instructions alongside access, linen locations and the checkout schedule. Review it when management changes so a cleaner does not have to contact several people to resolve one forgotten item.
